What are Barry DropBoxes?

A dropbox is a directory on a BarryNet server where users can upload or download files of any size and type at anytime.
There are two types of DropBoxes:

1. A Course or Private DropBox is a password protected area where students can “drop off " or upload files to their instructors. Once a file is uploaded, the instructor will be sent an email message with a link to the file for downloading or viewing. Instructors can navigate to their Course DropBox using a web browser or download files via an FTP client.

2. A Public DropBox is an open area where people outside of Barry can send files to Barry community members. The sender will be required to enter the Barry email address of the intended recipient. The recipient will be able to pick up the file using their web browser or their favorite FTP client. Files uploaded to the Public DropBox will be permanently deleted after 14 days.

Why use a DropBox?

  • It is an easy, user friendly and secure method for sending, retrieving and managing files.
  • BarryNet users can receive large files from friends and colleagues outside of Barry.
  • Instructor’s don’t need to worry about their email boxes going above the size limit because
of students sending large email attachments with assignments.
  • Student projects are sometimes too large to be sent as an attachment to an email message.
  • Our email server has a limit on the size of the attachments that can be sent. DropBoxes
    accept any file size.
  • Uploading and downloading files to a DropBox helps prevent the email server from getting overloaded.
  • Our email server prohibits various file type attachments to be sent if they are known to hide malicious viruses. DropBox accepts any types of files and the files are scanned for viruses.
